Every other year the Grant Stake sponsors a Youth Conference. Traditionally the Stake Youth leaders have invited (with great positive effect) the adults in the Stake to add their faith and prayers to those of the youth themselves and their leaders that these Youth Conferences achieve their stated purpose to , “help youth build faith in Jesus Christ and strengthen their testimonies” (Handbook 2).
The youth have the opportunity this year to engage in a Pioneer Trek on the original Mormon Trail in Wyoming. The landowners, Wendy and Kelly Peterson said this to the youth leaders that attended an onsite orientation last month, “The spirit is on this trail. The pioneers are on this trail. They want you to know they are on the trail. There are places on this trail where the veil is very thin. We don’t worry about the spirit of this place. It will be here for you if you come prepared.”
The Stake Youth leaders have challenged the youth to a simple program that will help them be prepared for what might await them on Trek. We call this program 2-2-2. It runs for two months from May 18th to July 18th, the first day of Trek. We would like to invite any of you who are interested to join the youth in this threefold program:
First, Two months of reading from the Book of Mormon everyday – without missing a single day.
Second, Two vigorous walks (or runs, or hikes or bike rides, etc) each week from May 18th to July 18th.
Third, that the two regularly scheduled fast days in June and July be complete fasts with a specific spiritual purpose; for the spirit to accompany Trek, that faith might increase, temptation overcome, etc.
On the Sat., May 18th Trek Prep/Training Hike up Big Mountain, the interested participants will receive a 2-2-2 Requirement and Reporting Card as a reminder of the requirements and goals of the program.
Please consider participating in this 2-2-2 Grant Stake Trek Preparation; as you do so the Lord will bless you for your efforts.
The Stake Presidency fully supports this initiative.
